Soft Washing
Fiber loss is inevitable with any washing stage. The more aggressive the washing stage, the greater the fiber loss. Recovering fiber from these washer filtrates can be done economically, however, by feeding the filtrate to a CONUSTRENNER spray filter, which separates the long fiber from the fines and ash. Optionally, the recovered fiber can be sent to a second CONUSTRENNER for additional de-ashing or to an ELEPHANT Thickener for further soft-washing and thickening, which typically allows for the recovered fiber to be “fed forward” in the stock preparation system. The nearly fiber-free filtrate can the be clarified by Dissolved Air Flotation.
